Ulysses Swanson is an independent scholar with a passion for LGBTQ history and its accessibility. In his ongoing project “Transgender Ancestors,” he traces the lives and family histories of gender nonconforming people from the 1840s to the 1940s. A lifelong Minnesotan, he fell in love with Wisconsin’s LGBTQ history and community while working on his project during road trips with his husband and other gay best friends.

Swanson joined the Advisory Panel of the Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project in November 2023.
