Doug Johnson, a Registered Nurse (RN), has been heavily involved volunteering to assist with the health care needs of the LGBT community. Beginning with volunteering for the Brady East STD (BESTD) Clinic in 1983 to diagnose and treat the conventional sexually transmitted diseases (STD's), Doug was to become a pioneer in local AIDS and HIV caregiving once that threat was recognized, being a leader in the founding of the Milwaukee AIDS Project (MAP), initially as part of the BESTD clinic, and later spun off to become the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin.
